EXHUMED ON MYSPACE

The undisputed masters of Gore Fucking Metal blast back with “Garbage Daze Re-Regurgitated”, a collection of cover songs that hearken back to their filthiest roots (tracks by bands like Master, Siege, and Unseen Terror) as well as build upon their latter-day metallic sensibilities (as evidenced by their renditions of Metallica and Led Zeppelin tunes).

Re-convening two years after their acclaimed third album, Anatomy is Destiny, Garbage Daze showcases the results of intense worldwide touring (including the US, Europe, Iceland, Australia, and Japan) and fundamental line-up shifts. New members Wes Caley (guitar, ex-Uphill Battle), Matt Connell (drums, vocals, ex-Fuck the Facts, Experiment in Terror) and returning former member Leon DelMuerte (bass, vocals, ex-Impaled, Exhumed, etc) all add their own elements to the distinct Exhumed core sound, anchored by band founder Matt Harvey’s unmistakable vocals, guitar-work and vision.

With less emphasis on technical flourish than Anatomy, this record allows the band to cut loose and re-interpret a handful of great songs, letting the new incarnation of the group coalesce together naturally, and gel into a real “band” instead of a session musician situation, which was a decision consciously made by Harvey when planning Exhumed’s next move. The band teamed up with infamous underground illustrator Rob “Mid” Middleton (Napalm Death, Deviated Instinct, etc.) to capture the stripped-down energy of the record, straying from their tradition of photographed covers to emphasize that this is not a typical Exhumed record. The record also features performances from Exhumed alumni Bud Burke (who contributes guitar solos on “Trapped Under Ice”) and Mike Beams, who contributes his signature, ultra-guttural vocals, emphasizing the family feeling between members past and present.

Taking Punk, Thrash, Grind, Crust, Doom, Death Metal, and straight-up Rock songs and thoroughly butchering them to fit into the band’s blood-splattered paradigm, the band members showcase not only the breadth of their influences and abilities, but their firm grasp on the Gore Metal genre. They twist it and rend the style as they see fit, with little regard to preconceptions or expectations, yet the album still sounds unmistakably like Exhumed.
